Loreto are the first ever winners of the Under 19's EB/British Colleges Premier National Title. Winning the Championship gave a big boost to the Loreto/Magic Basketball Academy, which is attracting much talent for entry in September 2011.
The Head Coach of the Academy is Paul Middleton, who also coaches the Magic Under 18 team. Paul is ably assisted in both roles by Garry Latham. Both Paul and Garry came through the Magic system as players and have brought this expertise to their coaching roles.

Manchester Magic/Loreto College Basketball Academy
Manchester Magic have had a stable link with Loreto College in Manchester for the past 3 years. Loreto College is a top quality Sixth Form College, with an outstanding reputation for its educational performance and achievements.
The Magic Junior Under 18 team has 2 x 2 ½ hours practices at Amaechi Basketball Centre, as well as playing in the National League Premier North and Division 3 Men North Leagues. This means that, on most weekends, the team will play a minimum of 2 games, sometimes 3.
Any Manchester Junior player who is accepted into the Loreto Basketball Academy has the following additional benefits:
- 2 x 2 hour practices with the College team.
- Access to individual practices at Amaechi Basketball Centre
- A full College mid-week game programme at Elite College level, ensuring one game per week on average.
- The availability of Club-owned accommodation within 100 metres of Amaechi Basketball Centre. This ensures that all accommodated players have a practice facility on their doorstep.
We are now considering applications for entry into the Academy for September 2011.
Any player who wishes to find more information about the Magic/Loreto Basketball Academy, should contact Joe Forber on:

The Loreto Magic Basketball Academy is a partnership between the prestigious Loreto Sixth Form College in Manchester with the Manchester Magic, the highly successful basketball Club which operates from the Amaechi Basketball Centre.
The partnership enables selected boys to have daily practices, plus access to gym programmes suitable for their needs. The players in the Academy, as well as representing Loreto, will play for the Magic at weekends. The National League teams available to Loreto Academy players at the Magic are Under 18 Premier League, Men's Division 3 and Men's Division 1.
As well as aspiring to excel academically, the Academy is designed to better prepare youngsters for a career as a professional basketball player. Currently, most youngsters move abroad to achieve this, but we hope that, in the long term, English basketball will mature sufficiently to allow players to remain in the UK and fulfil their basketball aspirations here.
Past players from the Academy who have moved on to a higher standard of basketball are:
| Lee Goldsbrough | Providence College | NCAA 1 | Freshman |
| Andrew Lovedale | Davidson College | NCAA 1 | Graduated |
| Menelik Watson | Marist College | NCAA 1 | Freshman |
| Devan Bailey | Central Connecticut State Univ. | NCAA 1 | Sophomore |
There have been many more players, both boys and girls, who have gained Scholarships in the USA outside of the Loreto situation. For a complete list, check the website. Click on Club, then Player Honours.

20 January 2010
2008/09 saw the first year of the Academy. It is a partnership between the prestigious Loreto Sixth Form College in Manchester with the Manchester Magic, the highly successful basketball Club which operates from the Amaechi Basketball Centre.
The partnership will enable the selected boys to have daily practices, plus access to gym programmes suitable for their needs. Most of the players, as well as representing Loreto, will play for the Magic at weekends. Some of the first year intake are expected to play Division 3 Men's basketball and may even make sufficient progress to play for Magic 1.
